Fire destroyed a home in Cobblestone Farms on Thursday evening.

The single-story home at Vineyard Street and Celtic Avenue in Cobblestone Farms went up in flames before 7 p.m. Thursday.

Maricopa Fire/Medical crews responding to the scene about 7 p.m. Thursday found fire blowing through the roof, according Brad Pitassi, interim chief of the department.

Firefighters quickly entered and searched the home and found people at home during the fire had already exited the home safely, Pitassi said. Crews from every station in the city responded to the blaze.

No residents or firefighters were injured, Pitassi said.

The fire quickly worsened and became too dangerous to fight from inside the home, he said. At that point it was decided to fight the fire from outside the home and focus on preventing its spread to adjacent houses.

Images shared on Facebook showed flames towering above the rooftop of the home.

Fire crews were on scene for hours to extinguish the fire and firefighters stayed overnight on watch to ensure the fire did not rekindle.

Drone video captured Friday morning (see below) showed that much of the solar panel-covered roof had fallen into the home. The home and property is fenced off pending an investigation into the cause.

Crews from the City of Maricopa, Phoenix, Sun Lakes and Chandler were assigned to the incident. Regional partners backfilled local stations to ensure the 9-1-1 system maintained its integrity to service the City if other fire or emergency medical calls occurred.

Such incidents are a reminder to all Maricopans to check their smoke detectors, Pitassi said.

Neighbors are uniting to help ensure the couple who lived in the home has what they need in the coming days and weeks.
