Remember that scene from the 2018 movie Venom where Tom Hardy gets a double shot of taser gun? Those 50,000 volts did little to take him down, and he pulled the probes out of his skin like they were mere splinters.
That’s pretty much what happened the evening of Sept. 12 after Maricopa Police Department tased and arrested an illegal driver who’s a frequent flyer in our local justice system, and that’s putting it lightly.
Robert Earl Farmer, 49, faces new charges of resisting arrest and injuring an officer, failure to obey and driving without a license, according to a probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.
Officers pulled Farmer’s car over near North Porter Road and West Homestead Drive at 6:13 p.m. after a routine check showed Farmer’s license was suspended years ago.
Farmer refused to identify himself and refused to get out of the car when commanded, the police report stated. That’s when officers tased him, but Farmer pulled the taser probes out of his own skin in an adrenaline-fueled feat that has inspired headlines like: “Man fought as if he felt no pain.”
When police wrestled Farmer out of his car and onto the ground, he continued to resist arrest and fought with officers. One officer’s right arm was injured in the tussle.
Farmer has been arrested in Maricopa 13 times before and twice in Casa Grande, all on violence and traffic-related charges, according to court records. One case is sealed. In May, Farmer was found guilty in Maricopa Municipal Court of resisting arrest and threatening a cop.
He was most recently busted driving without a license again in Maricopa in July, but evidently, he did not learn his lesson.
Farmer was booked into the Pinal County jail. Because of his lengthy criminal record, he faces a presumptive sentence of more than five years in prison.
