Looks like our predictions early this year were correct.
German-owned Aldi submitted preliminary plans this week to build a grocery store in the South Bridge Shopping Center on John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt Avenue. It will be the city’s fifth grocery store.
The discount supermarket will sit just northwest of Lowe’s Home Improvement, which is under construction.
In January, InMaricopa noted developer Thompson Thrift has continuously worked with four grocery stores in the past: Sprouts Farmers Market, Aldi, Publix and Earth Fare. The developer brought Sprouts to the Sonoran Creek Marketplace in 2021.
The city’s Chief Economic Strategy Officer Rick Horst said these kind of development projects “are essential to not only keep money in our local economy but create job and retail opportunities that people don’t have to commute out of town for.”
Construction and opening timelines are yet to be released.
