The fire at the KFC-Long John Silver’s restaurant at 21566 John Wayne Pkwy., which started just before 9:30 a.m., apparently in a fryer, was extinguished soon thereafter, according to authorities on the scene.

Workers evacuated the building and there were no injuries reported.

The first crews on scene entered the building with a hose line and discovered a working kitchen fire, according to Chris Bolinger, deputy chief with the City of Maricopa Fire/Medical Department. The blaze was extinguished with most damage confined to the cooking area.

The cause is under investigation, said Bolinger.

The extent of the damage to the restaurant was unknown.

In the aftermath, firefighters used fans to clear the smoke and could be seen checking out the roof of the restaurant, which opened in 2006.
