The driver of a stolen vehicle Maricopa police pulled over last night in Desert Passage outran officers in a foot chase and is on the loose.

The passenger in the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, a minor, was apprehended when he also bolted from the car the cops stopped at the entrance to Desert Passage, Bowlin Road at Smith Farms Circle. Cops pulled over the car after Flock cameras identified it as stolen and driving in the city limits.

“The car came to a stop and the two occupants fled,” said Assistant Maricopa City Manager Jennifer Brown. “The suspects did cut through some residential back yards while fleeing from police.

The investigation is ongoing and no injuries were reported.

Desert Passage resident Samantha Rhone said she saw cops pulling over the suspect vehicle near the entrance to the community. She said six officers with spotlights converged on the scene to find the suspects.

Elizabeth Fuentes of Desert Passage said last night in a Facebook post on Nextdoor that officers came to her home to check her backyard “because they’re searching for a suspect.”
