Sections of the parking lot at Copper Sky Recreation Complex will closed through March 16 as part of the ongoing construction of the new La Quinta Inn.

Installation of a sewer line to the hotel is underway and the work is proceeding east from the hotel into the south parking lot.

A section of parking lot east of the dog park and adjacent to the skate park is closed and fenced off during Phase 2 of the sewer line project, which runs through March 5. From March 5-16, construction will continue further eastward with Phase 3.

About 60 spaces will be unavailable during Phase 2 and about another 40 will be unavailable during Phase 3.

The dates of the project are tentative and subject to change, according to the city.

The 89-room La Quinta Inn & Suites, the first hotel to operate in the city in 66 years, will boast amenities that include an indoor pool featuring huge, roll-up doors that open onto a patio with a fire pit; meeting space; and an exercise room, among others. The hotel is tentatively scheduled for a late March opening and represents a $10 million capital investment.

According to owner Andy Bhakta, who also owns La Quinta franchises in Williams and Holbrook, the new hotel is expected to employ at least 20 workers. The project broke ground in September 2019.
