For the month of February the Maricopa Center for Entrepreneurship will be displaying pencil art from local artist Herman Zelig Neuberger.

“My goal is if you ever have to take a second look at the finished piece of art to determine whether it is a photograph or hand-drawn,” Neuberger said. “If you are looking at it possibly being a photograph, I’ve accomplished my goal.”

He said he wants his sketches to be as “close to realism to the nth degree” as possible

A Chicago native, Herman moved to Arizona to escape the frigid cold. He first lived in Mesa until he discovered the senior community of Province, which is where he currently resides.

“We have done some business with Herman in the past,” MCE Director Dan Beach said. “He was a part of our very first ‘Artist in the City Pop-Up Gallery’ and a lot of people liked his work. It is almost surprising that it took us this long to give him his own gallery with us.”

The gallery will be on display for the month of February at MCE’s storefront on John Wayne Parkway.
