A man was booked into Pinal County jail April 13 after Maricopa officers say he tried to evade them during a traffic stop.

At about 11:15 a.m., police clocked Michael Calvin, 29, driving 72 mph on eastbound Honeycutt Road, where the posted speed limit is 45 mph.

When police activated their flashing lights, Calvin moved into the center turn lane to pass traffic and then turned left onto northbound Porter Road.

Calvin continuously stuck his hand out the window, making obscene gestures, police reported.

Still refusing to pull over, police used their vehicle’s intercom to order Calvin to stop. Police say he turned onto Novak Lane where he stopped, exited the vehicle and began removing his clothing, yelling he did not have a weapon as he walked across the street.

After additional yelling and non-compliance, Calvin was arrested, according to officers.

A records check indicated Calving’s license was suspended, according to the probable-cause statement.

Calvin was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving, excessive speeding, failure to stop, failure to provide driver’s license and driving with a suspended license.
