A Maricopa man is accused by police of robbery after he reportedly took a woman’s firearm from her purse and then “choked her out” with one hand on Jan. 20, according to officers. Mannix Duncan, 20, was arrested and booked into Pinal County Jail on suspicion of robbery, aggravated assault and four warrants. Two were assault warrants, one trespassing and one pre-adjudication warrant, a probable-cause statement said.

At 9:13 a.m., Maricopa police were called to a residence on West Posada Drive in Santa Rosa Springs by a woman who said a man, identified as Duncan, had stolen her firearm, according to police.

When officers arrived, the woman stated she came to the home and was styling Duncan’s hair when he reached into her purse and took out her Taurus-brand firearm, police said.

According to the probable-cause statement, the woman asked Duncan for the firearm back. He refused. She said that when she asked a second time, Duncan pushed her on the bed and pinned her arms down. The woman said he then choked her out with one hand for about 10 seconds.

After a short pursuit on foot, officers took Duncan into custody. He stated he took the firearm because he needed it for protection and advised that he hid it in a field behind his home because he knew police were going to come for him, Maricopa police reported.

Duncan denied pushing or choking the woman, police said.

According to online jail records, Duncan has a list of past and future court dates involving the incident and warrants: Jan. 23 at Casa Grande City Court, Jan. 27 at Pinal County Superior Court, and Jan. 31 at Casa Grande City Court.
