UPDATE Feb. 5, 2024, 5:11 p.m.: The Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office completed its preliminary autopsy this afternoon in the death of 42-year-old Maricopa resident Shawn Black at his workplace Saturday morning.
Both the cause and manner of death are pending. PCMEO has ordered toxicology studies on the body to determine the cause of death.
These results may take up to 90 days. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
ORIGINAL STORY Feb. 5, 2024, 12:30 p.m.: Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office identified a man found dead at a local sports bar Saturday morning.
It was just before 9 a.m. when Maricopa Police, Fire and Medical personnel responded to The Roost at 20800 N. John Wayne Parkway. They found 42-year-old Shawn Black deceased, according to city spokesperson Monica Williams.
“Preliminary investigation of the incident did not reveal any indications of foul play,” Williams told InMaricopa Saturday evening.
According to Shawn Black’s Facebook page, he was an employee at the restaurant. The restaurant did not immediately respond for comment.
“I am able to confirm that the PCMEO is investigating the death of a Mr. Shawn Black,” PCMEO Investigations Supervisor Andre Davis told us this morning. “The postmortem exam has not been completed as of yet.”
Davis said he will be able to provide more information about the death this afternoon.
