Manfredi: Help is available this Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month [City of Maricopa Communications Dept]

To the editor,

Domestic violence continues to affect families throughout the city, with several recent cases reported in local news highlighting the range and severity of abuse that can occur behind closed doors. In recent months, police have arrested residents in connection with physical assaults, threats, and other domestic incidents involving spouses, partners, and family members.

Help is available, and no one should face abuse alone.

Raising awareness is not just about recognizing the problem; it’s also about taking action. It’s about making sure victims know there are resources and people ready to help them find safety and healing.”

Local organizations continue to play a critical role in assisting victims. Against Abuse provides shelter and advocacy services for survivors. Hope Women’s Center in Maricopa offers counseling, support groups, and emergency resources for women and families in crisis.

The Arizona Coalition to End Sexual & Domestic Violence connects individuals to legal aid, emergency housing, and other statewide services. At the same time, the National Domestic Violence Hotline provides 24-hour confidential support in over 200 languages.

I encourage all residents to learn the warning signs of abuse, which can include controlling behavior, isolation, threats, and physical or emotional harm. I also stress the importance of checking in on friends or relatives who may be in unsafe situations, before it’s too late.

Resources for people experiencing domestic violence in Maricopa include:
