The 2019 Maricopa Open Disc Golf Tournament will take place this weekend on the city’s two courses at Maricopa Meadows and the new Copper Sky Course.

So far, 186 golfers are pre-registered for the event.

Check in starts at 1 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. A question and answer clinic will take place at Copper Sky starting at 1:30 Friday. The clinic is with Arizona’s Disc Golf Professional and Team Discraft Captain Paul Ulibarri.

Other events Friday include doubles sign up from 2 to 2:30 p.m. and random draw doubles from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The tournament kicks into full speed Saturday with tournament check in from 7 to 8 a.m. and a mandatory player’s meeting from 8 to 8:30 a.m. at Copper Sky. Mayor Christian Price is expected to make the ceremonial first throw before the amateur division tees off at 9 a.m. with a shot gun start.

The pro division tees off at 1:30 p.m. Saturday

Sunday the tie-breaker for the final cut will be from 8 to 9:15 a.m. at Copper Sky followed by the players meeting at 9:30.

The final round starts at 10 a.m. with the top 40 percent of the pro and 45 percent of the amateur divisions participating.

The awards ceremony will be at True Grit Tavern, 20800 N. John Wayne Parkway, Suite101, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Members of the North Hidden Valley Volunteer Fire Department will be at Maricopa Meadows for the tournament with one of their trucks, selling ice cold water to players and spectators as a fundraiser to raise money for the building costs and upkeep costs of a new training structure that has been donated to them by Milky Way Dairy.

North Hidden Valley Fire Department is completely volunteer run and gets no funding from city or state.

Every one of its members are volunteers, most of whom live in Maricopa. The department protects areas west of Maricopa and there are no fire hydrants in that area. Firefighters fight fires only with the water they can bring with them.
