Local advocacy organization Maricopa Seniors, Inc. will install its 600th lock box for older adults next week in Cobblestone Farms.
The lock box program began in 2010 through Maricopa Seniors and Maricopa Fire/Medical Department to provide an alternative to forced entry during wellness checks or emergency services at the homes of seniors. The box is mounted at the entry of a home by Maricopa Fire Corps volunteers and can only be accessed by MFMD personnel.
“Through the Senior Lock Box program, we’ve witnessed a profound impact on the safety and well-being of our senior citizens in Maricopa,” said MFMD Chief Brad Pitassi. “Providing them with this simple yet crucial tool not only ensures swift access during emergencies but also creates a sense of security and peace of mind.”
Lock boxes cost $65 and can be installed for free by volunteers. Hardware comes with the box for the do-it-yourselfers.
Additionally, Maricopa Seniors provides packet filled with senior resources and emergency information for first responders.
Lock boxes are available to anyone living within MFMD’s response area. For more information or to purchase a lock box, contact Peg Chapados at [email protected].
