(First InMaricopa) An 18-year-old Maricopa man has been charged in connection with a drive-by shooting that occurred Saturday in Casa Grande.

Police called in the SWAT team to arrest Damian Logan in Maricopa this afternoon. He faces charges of aggravated assault, drive-by shooting and discharging a firearm at a structure.

According to Casa Grande Police Department, the incident began just before midnight Saturday at a McDonald’s near North Pinal Avenue and McCartney Road. A disagreement ensued and continued about 1½ miles north to the Villago subdivision, where Logan allegedly fired multiple shots into a vehicle that was occupied. No one was injured, the police said.

The authorities are still investigating the type of firearm used, the number of shots fired and what led to the shooting.

Logan was listed as a quarterback for both the Maricopa High School and Casa Grande Union High School football programs. According to MaxPreps, a website that tracks high school sports, he was a senior during the 2023-24 football season. However, he is not listed as a graduating senior from MHS in 2024 and did not participate in CGUHS’s graduation ceremony in May last year.

Today, investigators tracked Logan to a home in the Desert Cedars neighborhood of Maricopa, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. Due to the nature of the case, the response involved the Pinal County Regional SWAT team, which assists local agencies with high-risk incidents, the sheriff’s department said.

“Anytime an individual suspect is involved with a firearm, it’s going to activate SWAT,” Casa Grande Public Information Officer Thomas Anderson said.

Police arrived at a home near Greythorn Drive and Yucca Lane around 2:45 p.m. this afternoon. Two SWAT vehicles and several unmarked cars were at the scene. A Maricopa police spokesperson said their agency was notified but did not assist. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office aided in the arrest.

Logan was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center in Florence.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 46 years in prison.
