Maricopa woman accused of pulling gun during road rage incident

[Pinal County Sheriff's Office]

A Maricopa woman was arrested last week after allegedly pointing a handgun at another vehicle during a road rage incident, police records show.

A couple called police after 5 p.m. June 5 after they say the female driver of a blue Chevy Silverado cut them off, attempted to run them off the road and pointed a gun at them while driving northbound on John Wayne Parkway from Honeycutt Road, according to a probable cause statement.

The couple told police that despite there being “plenty of space,” the Silverado cut them off. Afterwards, the driver “gave them an insulting gesture” through the window, according to a probable cause statement.

From there, both vehicles continued northbound on John Wayne Parkway. The couple allegedly told police the driver continuously drifted into their lane, which they thought was an attempt to push them off the road. The driver then pulled out a black handgun and pointed it at the couple before driving away.

Police tracked down the driver, identified as 22-year-old Eliza Ruiz Yazza, and found a black pistol in the truck.

Yazza allegedly told police the couple would not let her pass while driving on Honeycutt Road and the vehicle began following her. According to officers, “she was scared … because she saw [the man] yelling,” which led to her pulling out her gun and waving it at the couple.

She later said she “may have pointed the firearm at him” in the process,” police said.

Yazza’s husband arrived during her arrest. He said she called him after she was pulled over by police and admitted “she pointed a firearm at [the other] vehicle,” according to the probable cause statement.

Police arrested Yazza and booked her into Pinal County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and assault. She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. She has a hearing scheduled for June 23.

  1. It’s hard to determine who is actually in the right here as it’s the couples word against hers. Hopefully there are cameras. Regardless, she can’t be pulling out no weapon over a traffic disagreement, even being yelled at as she was safe in her vehicle. 15 years for this seems very excessive unless she has priors and there were children in either or both vehicles.

    1. Nothing to discuss. Nothing to prove. She confessed to pulling and pointing the pistol at the VICTIMs. 15 years is the Max Sentence. She should get 3 minimum and out after 1 with good behavior. She pulled and pointed. Go to jail.

  2. Hope she (Yazza) gets jail time. What is going on here? Very poor driving here in Maricopa and not just of 347.

  3. Shouldn’t the title read “Maricopa woman confesses to pulling gun during road rage incident”?
