At 78, Councilmember Bob Marsh isn’t ready to hang up his hat just yet.

The first-term councilmember confirmed he filed initial candidate paperwork in April, indicating his interest in running for possible re-election.

“I’m not done yet,” he told InMaricopa. “There are a lot of things I’d like to move forward on, especially the highways in and out of Maricopa.”

Highways, water, public transportation and senior advocacy are just a few of the issues he has emphasized during his time on council.

After living in the greater Phoenix area for a number of years, Marsh and his wife moved to Maricopa in 2010. The allure of building a new city in the desert drew them to the area.

“I knew it was a farming community from my previous visits, but when I saw what was happening here, I wanted to be a part of it,” he said.

Shortly after moving, Marsh participated in the Maricopa Citizen Leadership Academy. He later served on several local boards and committees, including the Maricopa Board of Adjustment and the Planning and Zoning Commission.

In 2020, Marsh was elected to the council and sworn into office the following year. It’s been a heck of a ride, he said.

“I’m helping to pull a new city out of the ground and I’m good at it,” he said. “I’m having a fun time doing it and I want to do more, so I want to get re-elected.”

Other seats up for re-election next year include Mayor Nancy Smith and Councilmembers Eric Goettl and Amber Liermann.
