Senita resident Bori Vega was seriously injured in a minibike crash on the Main Strip earlier this week and underwent surgery to relieve pressure in his brain, family and friends said on social media today.
A widely shared update said the collision “wasn’t his fault” and that Vega was taken into surgery to “drain pressure from his head.” A post made yesterday afternoon showed Vega intubated in a hospital bed.
This morning, relatives shared this statement on behalf of Vega:
“His surgery went well. They released the pressure off his brain. He was in surgery for over four hours, and it was scary. He’s also going to need surgery on his right hand, pins and rods. We’re hoping today he will be able to talk to us.”
While no official report is released on Wednesday night’s crash, a Maricopa Police Department spokesperson initially told InMaricopa the crash was Vega’s fault, saying he was riding without his lights on and entered the intersection at Edison Road when he didn’t have the green signal.

Vega is a familiar face at Maricopa car meets, often photographing custom vehicles, according to people who know him from those events. InMaricopa profiled Vega as part of our October 2024 magazine cover story.
The rise of small motorbikes and minibikes on city streets has also drawn complaints from some residents, who say the bikes lack the proper lights or registration for road use.
