Meadows man charged with dog’s killing

A 50-year-old Maricopa Meadows man is charged with killing a dog after he left the animal outdoors in temperatures that reached 108.

Jorge Delgadillo Sr., who lives on West Barbara Lane, faces animal cruelty and cruel mistreatment charges after he allegedly left the small French bulldog lying on the home’s backyard patio, Maricopa Police Department investigators said.

A Sept. 6 MPD probable cause statement said the pet’s owner Jorge Delgadillo III found his dog dead when he woke up to get ready for work.

“He then checked the cameras in the back yard and found that at approximately [3:30 p.m.] Jorge Delgadillo Sr. was then seen spraying the dog before he walked inside and left the residence to go to a bar,” police stated. “He made no attempt to bring the dog inside and the dog remained in the same location until it was found deceased by the owner with vomit and blood coming from its mouth.”

MPD investigators said they interviewed Delgadillo Sr. who told them he took the dog for a walk in the morning and noticed it was acting differently upon his return home. He stated he put the dog outside because it was an “outside dog.”

Later, the suspect observed the dog lying on the ground, mostly motionless and panting. He stated he sprayed the dog with a water bottle and left the dog on the patio.

“He made no attempt to remove the distressed dog from the 100-plus degree temperature,” the report states.

The suspect was arrested and transported to the Pinal County jail.

Delgadillo Sr. faces up to six months in jail on the felony charge.
