The nonprofit Maricopa Economic Development Alliance pledged its support for Proposition 482 in a press release today, citing its potential for economic investment and job creation.
If passed in a July 30 special election, Proposition 482 would authorize the city to sell 728 acres of city-owned property, which includes 328 acres slated for an upcoming industrial park. Other projects include commercial and multifamily residential developments.

MEDA said the measure would allow for “more local control and can result in more local jobs” by attracting economic development, reducing traffic on State Route 347 and increasing the city’s tax base.
“Attracting large-scale employment projects relies on many things, but notably success depends upon land availability and infrastructure,” the press release read. “Thus Proposition 482 can spur economic development by allowing Maricopa to move quickly on a property sale to a large company.”
