Maricopa’s “TikTok Rizz Party” was no cap.
James Hoffman and Ralph Dejesus, both aged 20, are the minds behind the so-called prank that turned into a real social event for youngsters Saturday night.
They were the pair that strung up hundreds of flyers for their “rizz party” at businesses across the city, promising the talents of chart-toppers like Ice Spice, Playboi Carti and Lil Yachty.
The idea for the prank came after they saw #TikTokRizzParty trending on social media.
Hoffman and Dejesus made the flyers in Photoshop and drove out of town to print them at a Staples store. Dejesus said it cost them about $400.
“We did 250 of them,” Dejesus said. “One night we just went out, 11 [p.m.] to 2 a.m. and went all across Maricopa putting everything on businesses.
“The city’s a little bit dry at times and I think this city needs a little bit more jokes, a little bit more fun, a little bit more everything. We don’t do a lot out here.”
Hoffman added: “It’s some playful fun, just some tape and a piece of paper.”
None of the chart-toppers showed up, but at least 20 teenagers and young adults attended despite their opps, city officials, denying the party Friday.
Ice Spice was “hiding in the bushes,” Hoffman said, but Bluey, the titular blue heeler from the viral Australian kids’ cartoon, appeared in the form of Dejesus’ backpack.
One Maricopa High School senior who refused to identify himself said he did nothing but “yap about the TikTok Rizz Party for the last week and a half.”
Others high schoolers said they just showed up to see what the buzz was about.
“Maybe the TikTok Rizz Party was the friends we made along the way,” said Desert Sunrise High School student Beckett Butters.
