A fire inside a Homestead home on Friday night was contained by Maricopa Fire and Medical after an individual reported the blaze in person at the fire station.
At about 8 p.m., a person arrived at Maricopa Fire and Medical Station 571, at North Porter and West Smith Enke Roads, to report that their home was on fire. Fire crews reported the incident to dispatch and responded to the home in the 20000 block of Lauren Drive.
When crews arrived, they located an active fire in the home’s kitchen that was beginning to spread to the attic, according to MFMD spokesperson Monica Williams.
Crews quickly deployed hose lines and limited further spread of the flame.
A woman home at the time safely exited the home before crews arrived. There were no injuries to residents or members of the MFMD crew.
MFMD says the fastest way for crews to respond to an emergency is to call 911. If residents arrive at a firehouse, it is possible crews could be dispatched to another call, delaying response. Should there be an emergency need, each firehouse is equipped with a red phone located at the front of the station that the public could use to connect with dispatch and the crews inside the fire station.
