Students at Maricopa High School are planning to compete in automotive, photography and advertising design competitions in Mesa on Saturday.

The competitions held at the SkillsUSA Region 3 Conference will take place at the East Valley Institute of Technology in Mesa, where students around the region will compete in several Career and Technical Education competitions.

Matthew Brown, Matthew Lebron and Peter Smith, seniors in teacher Erick Fierro’s automotive class, will compete in the automotive competition.

Seniors Zander Newey and Amber Tetmeyer, digital photography students taught by Kyle Norby, will compete in the photography competition.

Six students in Maria Pour’s graphic design class will vie for awards in the advertising design competition. They are seniors Emily Houston, Lauren Van Dyke and Rizelle Noslasco; juniors Abigayil Gindiri and Jessica Bailin; and freshman Jayden Garcia.

Students must qualify in Saturday’s regional competitions to advance to the State Leadership & Skills Conference, which will take place April 11-12 in Phoenix.
