A missing man is accused of punching a cop trying to take him home Saturday afternoon.

Cops arrested 33-year-old Brandon Gallegos on charges of aggravated assault on an officer and obstructing a public throughfare, according to a probable cause statement.

Police were called for a welfare check on Gallegos, who suffers from a traumatic brain injury and reportedly has been missing. InMaricopa has previously reported two times prior when Gallegos went missing.

Just after 4 p.m., one officer found Gallegos walking northbound on North John Wayne Parkway, near Honeycutt Avenue, where the officer slowed down and asked Gallegos if he was OK.

Gallegos then ran from the sidewalk into traffic on John Wayne Parkway, according to the probable cause statement. The officer chased Gallegos before the man lunged and punched the officer in the chest several times, investigators said.

The officer placed Gallegos in handcuffs. Gallegos admitted to hitting the officer and trying to elbow him.

Gallegos was treated for injuries at a hospital before he was booked into Pinal County jail.

He faces 2 years in prison.
