Maricopans who need to travel to the Valley this weekend could once again face delays and closures on the Loop 202 in the East Valley.
The Arizona Department of Transportation said the Loop 202 will be Red Mountain Freeway will be closed briefly at times Saturday night. The freeway will be closed periodically in both directions near Priest Drive from 11 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Sunday for Arizona Public Service crews to complete overhead utility line work.
ADOT recommends drivers be prepared for slowing or stopped traffic during rolling closures of up to 15 minutes.
In addition, the southbound/westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway will be restricted to one or two lanes overnight from Sunday, Jan. 16 through Thursday, Jan. 20. The restrictions will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night for pavement maintenance.
The agency recommends allowing extra travel time in these areas and advises that drivers be prepared to slow down and stay alert for highway crews and equipment.
