The shop is open seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is the latest in a chain of four stores that started in Tempe in 1994 and expanded to Phoenix and then Peoria.

Carniceria Sonora, owned by Martha and Oscar Jimenez, is known for its marinades, authentic salsas, tortillas and guacamole. Shop personnel make the tortillas daily, guacamole and salsas onsite daily. It sells certified Angus Beef.

D&N Financial, which owns the building that houses the Mexican butcher shop and grocery store, hired Negev Design Build LLC for $175,000 to renovate the interior for dry goods resale and a small take-out restaurant shop. The makeover includes new interior walls/partitions, new plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, natural-gas service, flooring and paint.
