A police chase ended when a motorcyclist crashed into a Maricopa Meadows roundabout this morning.

Arizona State Troopers, Maricopa police, fire and medical responders were spotted at the roundabout at West Honeycutt Avenue and Hogenes Boulevard around 9:15 a.m., just after class began for Maricopa Wells Middle School students across the street.

Arizona State Trooper Lugo told InMaricopa he saw the motorcyclist speeding southbound on North John Wayne Parkway and running the red light at Honeycutt Avenue.

“I tried initiating a stop on it,” Lugo said. “[He] didn’t want to yield to my emergency lights, and [I] lost it when he turned on Bowlin [Road].”

Lugo found the biker in the grass of the Maricopa Meadows’ main roundabout.

“I arrested him for reckless driving,” he said.

The motorcyclist was not seriously injured but he was transported to a hospital, according to other troopers on the scene.

The motorcyclist has not yet been identified.
