Primary voters send 2 from Maricopa to county generals

Voters in yesterday’s Primary Election inked two candidates from Maricopa on the November ticket for larger Pinal County races, according to InMaricopa projections today.

Former Vice Mayor Rich Vitiello (R-Maricopa) with 41% of precincts reporting leads opponent Rob Weber (R-San Tan Mountains) by 17 points. Vitiello also led Weber by double digits in a July 14 InMaricopa poll of 304 voters.

InMaricopa has called the race for Vitiello.

“Thank you, Maricopa,” he said. “I’ll work hard for you.”

In the Nov. 5 General Election, Vitiello will face George Arredondo (D-Coolidge), who ran unopposed on the Democratic ticket. It could be a close race considering both candidates earned roughly the same number of votes in the primary.

Teeple, Melvin to face off in November

Ross Teeple (R-Cactus Forest) leads opponent Kevin Cavanaugh (R-Coolidge) in the Pinal County Sheriff race by 33 points with nearly 60% of precincts reporting. InMaricopa has called the race for Teeple.

“I am very grateful and honored with the trust Republican and Independent voters placed in me,” Teeple told InMaricopa. “My beautiful wife and I are especially appreciative of all the amazing work of our volunteers and the donors who made this possible.”

Cavanaugh, the sitting county supervisor in District 1 dropped a point in the sheriff’s race since last night and longshot Charles Austin Jr. (R-Apache Junction) stayed at 5%.

Outgoing Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, who lost his U.S. Senate primary bid to Kari Lake yesterday, endorsed Teeple early in the election cycle.

Patrick Melvin (D-Maricopa), who ran unopposed on the Democratic ticket, garnered more than 15,000 votes. He will run against Teeple in the General Election.
