In-home childcare plays a vital role in the Maricopa community. Providers are often the first teachers, nurturers and protectors families trust outside their own home. With that trust comes responsibility: to uphold a high standard of safety, professionalism and care.

What quality in-home care should include
- Safety and health first. A clean, childproofed and compliant environment is non-negotiable. Clear illness policies, emergency plans and daily health practices protect both children and families.
- Professional communication. Parents should receive clear updates about schedules, tuition and daily happenings. Strong communication builds trust and reassurance.
- Knowledge, training and background checks. Quality providers stay current on CPR/First Aid, child development, and professional training. They should also hold a valid fingerprint clearance card or background check — and parents should never just take their word for it. Always ask to see proof. A professional provider will never hesitate to show credentials.
- Learning through play. Even without a formal curriculum, providers should guide purposeful play that promotes social, emotional and academic growth.
- Family connection and community. Quality care feels like an extension of family, fostering belonging and community support.

Advice from a mother of 10 and daycare owner
As a mother to 10 children and a daycare owner with over 21 years of experience, I hold myself to the same expectations I ask other caregivers to meet. Working with children is one of the most sacred responsibilities anyone can have. Providers are entrusted with the most innocent lives, and that trust should never be taken lightly.
Here are a few key things parents should watch for:
- Parent-to-parent support. Connecting with other families in the program is invaluable. Honest conversations provide insight into care quality. If a provider discourages parent interaction, that’s a red flag.
- Professionalism at meet-and-greets. If a provider gossips or bashes others during an interview, be cautious. Professionals highlight their own program, not put others down.
- Consistency over cost. Don’t base your decision on bargain rates. Childcare is not about the cheapest option; it’s about safety, love and quality.
- Passion and longevity. Seek providers who see childcare as a calling, not just a paycheck. Longevity and strong community reputation speak volumes.
The first 5 years matter most

The first five years of a child’s life are the most important. Who surrounds them during this time shapes who they become. As parents and providers, we must ensure children are surrounded by wholesome influences — people who model honesty, leadership, integrity and love.
Every provider has the chance to set the bar higher. Licensed or unlicensed, professionalism and intentional care strengthen the reputation of in-home childcare in Maricopa. Families deserve to know their children are safe, nurtured and learning — and providers should be proud to deliver on that promise.
At Eden Brooks Childcare, my mission is not only to provide quality care, but to inspire other in-home providers to view themselves as professionals shaping the future of our community’s children while giving families who I provide care for peace and comfort while they work.
Working with children is one of the most sacred responsibilities anyone can have. Let’s protect them, nurture them and always hold ourselves to the highest standard.
