Road rager was armed, racist and harboring illegal street signs: cops

A Maricopa man was arrested after allegedly pulling a gun and shouting racial and homophobic slurs during a road rage incident, according to police.

Maricopa police officers responded to a reported road-rage incident involving a firearm at the Circle K near Desert Cedars, according to a probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.

Police met the Black driver of a tan Ford F-150, who said the confrontation began as he was driving west on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. He said he stopped at the light at Plainview Street and was turning left onto Honeycutt Road when another driver pulled up beside him.

According to the man, the driver of a red Nissan Frontier — with a large “Donald Trump” sticker on the back — brandished a firearm and yelled, “You drive like a f*cking f*ggot, you n***er,” before speeding off and turning into the Bungalows at Bowlin apartments.

Police later located the Frontier parked at an apartment and confirmed it was registered to Jadon Rapp, 21, whom officers recognized from a previous weapons call. Rapp, who recently moved to Maricopa from rural Montana, exited the apartment after police knocked.

In an interview, Rapp admitted to confronting the other driver but claimed he only said, “You’re driving like an a**hat,” and denied displaying or even carrying a firearm that day.

However, Rapp’s wife told officers he usually keeps the gun on him and handed over a white 9mm handgun. During a search of Rapp’s vehicle, officers also found several stolen signs, including a Lynn Street sign from the Lakes at Rancho El Dorado, a reflective construction road sign and a petroleum pipeline indicator marked with a warning that removal is a federal crime.

Rapp told officers a friend gave him the signs but admitted he knew he wasn’t supposed to have them. The Lynn Street sign at Bravo Drive was still missing Monday afternoon.

He was arrested and booked into the Pinal County jail on charges of disorderly conduct with a firearm, disorderly conduct and theft. He faces up to two years in prison.
