Bowling, bumper cars and climbing walls could be on your family’s activity calendar soon.

Months after a former Maricopa resident proposed building a family entertainment center near Copper Sky, a multistate brand has shown interest in bringing family fun to the city.

Syracuse, Utah-based Rush Funplex proposes constructing a 75,000-square-foot entertainment facility called Maricopa Power Center at Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Shea Way, according to public records obtained by InMaricopa yesterday.

Documents submitted to the city’s development department show developers want to construct a “100% indoor” building for “family entertainment and recreational use” at 17516 N. Shea Way, the parcel immediately west of Tractor Supply Co. The activities under its roof would include bowling, billiards, go-carts, arcades, bumper cars, climbing walls and more.

The building would also include a 25,000-square-foot space for “similar commercial recreation and entertainment type use that would complement the Rush Funplex,” a project narrative stated.

The family entertainment center would operate daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will remain open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The company anticipates hiring 25 full- and part-time employees.

Although a timeline hasn’t been set, the developers appear eager to get construction started; they said they were ready to submit plans and permits “so we can roll right into the next and final phase of construction.”

Rush Funplex currently operates six locations around the country, including Utah, Missouri and Kansas. But it’s now looking to Arizona. Earlier this year, the business showed interest in opening locations in Laveen and Goodyear by the end of 2026. Those locations would be the same size and include the same activities.

In a statement, owner Matt Gertge said their company was “extremely excited” to build in the Phoenix area, noting “the explosive growth and activity.”
