A 31-year-old man was arrested Friday after allegedly threatening to kill a child following a dog accident in the bedroom.
Maricopa Police Department officers responded to a Yucca Lane home at 2:40 p.m. after reports of a domestic dispute between Ryan Brooks, his wife and a child, according to a probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.
Police said they had limited information before arriving, knowing only that Brooks had reportedly threatened to murder the child after his wife left the home. When officers knocked on the front door, Brooks exited and was immediately handcuffed.
The statement said Brooks told officers the argument began after one of the family dogs urinated in a bedroom. To separate himself from the situation, he locked his wife out of the home.
The child victim, who is not related to Brooks, reportedly attempted to let the woman back in through a side window, at which point Brooks allegedly yelled: “I am going to kill you.” He later told the child, “You better have the police on speed dial or I will kill you.”
Brooks’s wife, who owns a dog grooming business, eventually left the home for an appointment. She told police she was unaware of the threats made toward the child.
During an interview, the child said he was too scared to call police himself and instead told a friend, who dialed 911, that his life was in danger. The child said Brooks had a history of beating him.
Brooks was booked into the Pinal County jail on domestic violence charges of threatening and intimidating and disorderly conduct. He faces one year in jail.
