Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board took no action last night after an executive session to consider a student’s expulsion.
Board leaders declined to comment on the matter, citing Arizona law protecting the identity of minors. However, they said they would vote on the expulsion at a future meeting.
A former MUSD Governing Board member said such votes virtually always result in an expulsion.
School officials would not release details about the matter that led to the student being considered for expulsion. A person with knowledge of the closed-door meeting said the matter was very serious.
Maricopa Police Department spokesperson Monica Williams declined to comment on the criminal investigation that led to the school board considering the student expulsion, saying, “We cannot disclose any information that identifies them per state law.”
This is a developing story.
