Another self-storage developer is scouting the Maricopa market

It’s early days, but a California developer is scoping out Maricopa’s self-storage scene for a possible future development.

Randy Benson of Black Canyon Self Storage, part of Arena Development Group, recently reached out to city officials, asking for information about future storage projects in the area.

Benson’s firm is no stranger to Arizona: Black Canyon says it is currently building a 100,000-square-foot facility near Interstate 17 and Camelback Road in Phoenix, right across from Grand Canyon University. The storage developer clocked Maricopa’s booming residential growth and is curious about where more storage might fit in.

In his email, Benson said he’s interested in identifying self-storage projects that are either in the planning stages or have been recently approved. InMaricopa recently reported on an 8-acre self-storage facility that had been proposed earlier in the month.

“We have seen the residential growth in Maricopa plus the projects planned and have an interest in looking at self-storage opportunities in Maricopa,” Benson wrote.

For now, Maricopa residents already have a few options to stash their extra belongings:

  • Extra Space Storage, 20215 N. John Wayne Parkway
  • Maricopa Self Storage Solutions, 20125 N. John Wayne Parkway
  • Public Storage, 18000 N. Stonegate Road
  • Public Storage, 40675 W. Honeycutt Road

We tried to talk to Benson about his interest in Maricopa, but he didn’t return our calls.

Looks like we’ll just have to wait and see if another new place to park Maricopans’ extra stuff rolls into town.
