Maricopa’s golden oldies will have a chance to boogie to their favorite oldies tunes next week.

The Maricopa Senior Center will host a senior prom at the Copper Sky gymnasium on Thursday, April 13. Emphasis on the word “senior.”

The event is the first of its kind hosted by the center, offering a chance for the city’s senior citizens to dance and socialize while enjoying a trip down memory lane.

“At this point of our lives, we’ve gone through just about everything, from marriage to kids to not married to grandchildren,” said Harriet Phelps, a committee member of the senior prom. “Life passes and we just need those moments of remembrance and fun.”

In addition to an evening of music and dancing, attendees can also enjoy a fully catered meal from Roots Eatery, raffles and a photo booth for prom-style photos.

“Date or not, dressed up or not, come join us,” Phelps said.

Details: The senior prom begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 13 in the gymnasium at Copper Sky Recreation Complex, 44345 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Tickets are $35 per person and can be purchased at the city’s website.
