A woman accused of stealing her ex-boyfriend’s wallet and car keys while he was using the toilet was jailed after she allegedly locked herself in his truck, cops smashed the window and she escaped her handcuffs.
Maricopa Police Department on Monday arrested Delphina M. Whitehorse, 32, on two felony burglary charges and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, failing to comply, theft and disorderly conduct, according to a probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.
Four of those charges, including both felony charges, were filed with domestic violence enhancers. The enhancers are not charges themselves; they enhance the penalty imposed on a person convicted of the associated crime.
Whitehorse since 2019 has been arrested at least once a year on various charges related to abusing her ex-boyfriend and their daughter and repeat offenses of DUI and driving without a license.
Cops around 5 p.m. Monday responded to a Pryor Lane home in Homestead on a report of a disturbance involving the family of three. Dispatch advised officers en route that Whitehorse’s license to drive was suspended for a previous DUI, and when they arrived, they found Whitehorse in the driver’s seat of her ex-boyfriend’s truck with the engine running.
Officers noted she had red, bloodshot and watery eyes, with a flushed face.
Police demanded Whitehorse unlock the vehicle and exit, but she refused, according to the police document, which stated an officer had to smash the driver’s side window to force her out.
Whitehorse reportedly resisted arrest when officers tried to handcuff her. They eventually wrangled her, but she escaped from one of the two silver bracelets and tried to stage an escape.
Cops searched Whitehorse and found stolen credit cards belonging to her ex-boyfriend. Her bag in the truck contained two Fireball shooters: One empty and the other half full.
“I ain’t f*cking going nowhere.”
The ex-boyfriend told police Whitehorse sent him “many messages that did not make sense, alleging that there were people in his home,” according to the report.
The man said he was going to the bathroom and forgot to close the garage when Whitehorse entered, confronted him on the toilet, yelling: “Where the f*ck is she at.”
When the man told her to leave, Whitehorse reportedly yelled “I ain’t f*cking going nowhere,” before she stole his wallet and keys and started his truck.
Priors on Pryor
This is not the first time Maricopa police arrested Whitehorse on domestic violence charges at her ex’s Pryor Lane home.
In fact, she has faced Maricopa and Pinal County judges 10 times since 2018, ranging from endangerment by risk of imminent death to aggravated DUI with a child in the car.
Cops responded to the home in July 2022 on a report that Whitehorse had attacked and injured her then-boyfriend and was tearing up the house. Whitehorse chased him in a car she was driving illegally as he tried to escape his abuser on foot, and she crashed into a bush, according to police.
Whitehorse allegedly fought the cops who detained her. She was booked into jail on domestic violence charges of assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct, and DUI. She pleaded guilty to lesser charges last year.
Things escalated at that home again this February when Whitehorse drunkenly punched holes in her ex-boyfriend’s wall during an argument about their child, and held him hostage in the house, according to the police report.
The man told officers Whitehorse left in his truck without permission. Whitehorse, still not legally allowed to drive a car, admitted she drank an alcoholic beverage to “clear her mind” before getting behind the wheel, the report stated.
Again, she was arrested on domestic violence charges. That case is ongoing.
