With Home Depot and Lowe’s under construction, Maricopa might be on the cusp of yet another hardware store announcement.

Earlier today, a Facebook user named Armo Lite announced California-based Harbor Freight would soon occupy the former 99 Cents Only store on John Wayne Parkway and Edison Road, which shuttered last month.

The post quickly gained more than 300 reactions and 100 comments by 4 p.m., along with an unofficial confirmation from Santa Rosa Crossing resident Amber Miller.

“True news,” she wrote in the Maricopa AZ 85138 group. “My husband will be running the store. It was announced a few weeks ago.”

Miller also mused the store may open as soon as October.

However, Harbor Freight spokesperson Donna Walker had a more tempered response.

“I can’t confirm anything right now, but we are looking in the area,” she told InMaricopa.

Walker said it may be at least two months before the company opts to make an announcement.

The company’s job search page does not list any open positions in Maricopa and the city is not listed on its store locator page. The closest location is 20 miles away in Casa Grande.
