A motorist was killed on Tuesday morning when a car slammed the back of a box truck on State Route 347 at Riggs Road.
The accident occurred about 9:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes, which were closed for an investigation before reopening about 1:30 p.m. A fatality was reported, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
The motorist was not identified.
The car, a white, four-door sedan, slammed into the back of a box truck north of the traffic light, images from an Arizona Department of Traffic cam show. The sedan showed heavy damage as the front half of the car appeared crushed by its impact with the truck deck.
It was the second fatality on SR 347 in less than a week. Last Wednesday night, a hit-and-run driver killed a construction worker on the highway near Casa Blanca Road.
