An eight-week long maintenance project on 15-plus miles of State Route 347 will not begin Sunday night as originally planned.

According to Doug Nick, assistant communications director for public information, the Arizona Department of Transportation learned Friday afternoon that the contractor on the project, Cholla Pavement of Apache Junction, will be delayed a week.

The new start date is Sunday, Nov. 8, he said.

The work will be done between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Sunday to Thursday between Hathaway Avenue in Maricopa and I-10, according to ADOT.

The roadwork will include two phases: crack sealing with an oil-like substance, which will be more than half the project, Nick said, and the reapplication of pavement markings, where necessary.

The work had been scheduled to start this Sunday and continue through Dec. 24.

Lane restrictions – both northbound and southbound – will be in place throughout the project. Traffic will be restricted to one lane. Work will be limited to one direction of travel during each overnight restriction.

ADOT advises drivers to slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while work is underway. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.
