A misguided 20-year-old described as “violent” was arrested twice in two days last week but is likely to continue racking up charges as a Maricopa Police Department probe into the man continues with one mystery still unsolved.
Maximilian J. Maldonado was first arrested at his girlfriend’s Noreen Road home in Santa Rosa Springs just after 10 p.m. Sept. 13 on domestic violence charges of assault. Cops in a probable cause statement said Maldonado struck his girlfriend, pulled her by her hair and pinned her against a block wall.
The girlfriend’s mom and a neighbor witnessed the attack, police say. Maldonado was booked into the Pinal County jail that night and was released Sept. 14 at 4:30 p.m. after promising a Maricopa City Court judge he would stay sober.
It was just four hours later when an undisclosed person reported a Glock handgun missing and pointed officers to Maldonado. They found him again at his girlfriend’s home where he admitted to drinking alcohol, at which point the officers placed him under arrest for interfering with court proceedings.
The officers also found Maldonado was in possession of the case belonging to the stolen gun but did not lodge any weapons or theft charges.
InMaricopa asked MPD yesterday if the stolen gun was recovered.
“There is no additional information to release at this time,” spokesperson Monica Williams said. “There is an ongoing investigation.”
At present, Maldonado faces a year in jail.
