Before he was shot and killed by Maricopa Police Officers, Johnathan Guillory pointed a handgun at them, according to an MPD spokesman.

Ricardo Alvarado said Officer Joshua Hawksworth and Sgt. Leonard Perez feared for their safety and the safety of the community and “fired on Mr. Guillory as trained to do.”

The deadly confrontation occurred around 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Cobblestone Farms.

It was reported early that only the officers fired their weapons, and Alvarado said he has no information of anyone else firing shots.
