The Duke Golf Club at Rancho El Dorado is hosting the second annual Maricopa Junior Golf Tournament after school on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 12-13.

The tournament is open to middle school and high school players in grades 6 through 12. Players must be residents of Maricopa.

“Young golfers who’ve never played in a tournament — we want to give these kids something to play for instead of just playing for nothing,” said Jon Lesperance, a teaching pro at the course, whose two teenage daughters will be in the field. “It’s nothing stressful. It’s just for fun.”

The tournament will be the first at The Duke, 42660 W. Rancho El Dorado Pkwy., after it reopens on Oct. 10 for winter play after overseeding.

Youth tournament play begins at 3 p.m. each day. Trophies will be awarded during a ceremony at approximately 6 p.m. on Oct. 13 to the top three in boys and girls divisions.

Entry fee is $60, which covers the two rounds of golf. To register, phone Lesperance at 937-269-9950.
