This 347 crash went viral on Instagram and everyone is roasting Maricopa

When comedian Dustin Ybarra performed his standup routine in Chandler last week and heckled a front-row family from Maricopa, he quipped, “What, did it take you four hours to get here?”

Someone must’ve told the Los Angeles actor of Us and We Bought a Zoo fame that Maricopa drivers get into more car crashes than five entire Arizona counties, and our favorite place to crash is the infamous State Route 347.

It should take 12 minutes to drive from the northern city limits to Interstate 10 going the speed limit, but the lengthy commute into the Valley Ybarra alluded to has one thing to blame — crashes. And there’s one on SR 347 every other day on average, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

One such crash at the intersection with South Maricopa Road has gone viral on Instagram after the popular Phoenix account @arizonacantdrive, which has 77,000 followers, posted a dashcam clip yesterday that quickly amassed thousands of likes, comments and shares.

Commenters around the state, some 300 of them at the time of publication, weighed in on which of the two braindead motorists in the video was at fault — the black pickup truck that merged directly into the cam driver, or the POV driver who sped right into the truck?

Who’s at fault in viral Instagram video?

Influencer-at-law James Helm, a Phoenix attorney known better by his social media moniker @topdoglaw, an account with 410,000 followers, said, “Both are going to be partially at fault, but a good lawyer would argue the truck is most at fault since he was merging into a lane, cutting the POV off.”

Commenters argued about which driver possessed fewer IQ points.

“I agree the truck driver did something stupid, but cammer caused the wreck,” said Orion Carter.

Another commenter, Marshall Sweet, took the opposite approach: “In the end nobody cares why it wasn’t avoided, all that matters is who is liable for the damages and that would be the truck.”

Most people in the comments section, however, took the opportunity to roast SR 347 and Maricopa drivers.

“Ah yes, the 347. No one knows how to drive on that damn route,” said Sam Acedo.

“347, home of the worst drivers in existence,” said Seth Turk.

Instagram user @_spacecucumber added, “Naturally it’s the 347. Worst road with even worse drivers.”
