Get ready to sound off again on State Route 347.

The Arizona Department of Transportation today began seeking public comment on its $12.7 billion tentative five-year construction program — and Maricopa’s main road is in the running to be included.

ADOT looks to spend $1.05 billion on expansion projects around the state, including $137 million to widen Interstate 10 starting at the Gila River Bridge.

Widening 13 miles of SR 347 from the I-10 overpass to city limits is currently listed as an “illustrative project,” meaning it is a candidate to be included if additional funding becomes available.

The project will cost an estimated $235 million over the five-year period. So far, $90 million has been secured for the Maricopa County portion that ends 1 mile south of Riggs Road.

The project still needs another $145 million, which is where some recently introduced legislative bills and sales tax dollars step in.

In the meantime, Maricopa residents can view the 203-page document online and comments are being accepted today through 5 p.m. May 23.

There are five ways to leave comments:

  • Attending the May 16 public hearing of the State Transportation Board at 9 a.m. Meeting information can be found here.
  • Complete an online comment form here.
  • Email [email protected]
  • Call the bilingual phone line at 1-855-712-8530.
  • By mail. Attn: Nancy Becerra, c/o ADOT Communications, 1655 W. Jackson St., Room 179, MD 126F, Phoenix, AZ 85007

The State Transportation Board will vote to approve a final version of the program during its June 20 meeting.
