Video: Corvette driver’s donuts in Tortosa intersection scares neighbors

Someone in Tortosa won’t stop breaking state laws in broad daylight and it has neighbors worried for their children’s safety.

Tortosa resident Jorge Hernandez caught the brazen lawbreaker, a silver Corvette driver, doing donuts — the kind cops don’t like — in the middle of the intersection of Terragona Boulevard and Isabella Lane on July 9 and sent a cell phone video of the incident to InMaricopa.

“I’m so tired of these people thinking that Terragona is a racetrack,” Hernandez said. “We have kids playing in the backyard. We have kids and families walking down the street.”

Doing donuts in an intersection is “highly illegal” in Arizona, according to car industry expert Adam Szafranski.

“It is illegal to do donuts in an intersection in Arizona, or on any public street or roadway, as it is considered reckless driving,” he said.

Doing donuts in a residential intersection could result not only in charges of reckless driving, but also blocking an intersection, stunting, endangerment, public nuisance and disorderly conduct, which could add up to years in jail, a suspended or revoked driver’s license and tens of thousands of dollars in fines.

Maricopa Police Department did not respond to the incident earlier this month, according to spokesperson Monica Williams.

“This is an important reminder that if residents see something, especially reckless behavior that could put others in danger, they need to call the police,” Williams told InMaricopa. “As much as we try to have an officer everywhere, all the time, that’s impossible. So, we rely on the assistance from the community to let us know when something is happening in their area.”
