Watch: How investigators unraveled the war over ‘chicken nuggies’ at Burger King

It started with a drink being hurled at a Burger King drive-thru employee, and it ended with destructive mayhem inside the restaurant on John Wayne Parkway.

The fight escalated after a customer said she wasn’t getting chicken nuggets her way.

Maricopa Police Department recently released bodycam footage showing how a woman and her husband got arrested back in September 2023 with police officers carefully questioning the suspects and witnesses, some who couldn’t believe what they saw.

After the initial confrontation in the drive-thru, the suspects entered the restaurant and started throwing things and pushed a pastry display off the counter, damaging it.

“They got that angry over a four-piece nuggie,” the employee who was attacked told cops as she wiped away tears.

Sheree N. and Tavarus D. Ross were arrested. A second woman believed to be involved in the fight was not arrested.

The Rosses’ 4-year-old daughter was present during the arrests but was unhurt. The Rosses claimed to police that she was hit with soda from the drink tossed by the employee.

Tavarus told police he was angry that his daughter was exposed to the fight, which prompted his anger and destructive actions.

“I was wrong, bro,” Tavarus told officers interviewing him where he worked at the former Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. He had to shut down the barbecue restaurant when he was arrested because he was the only employee there.

(The restaurant reopened Nov. 16 as a Wetzel’s Pretzels.)

The bodycam video was recently broadcast by the TV crime show, “Law and Crime.”

Sheree admitted she threw water at the employee and claimed the employee tossed a large orange soda back at her.

Sheree was released from the Pinal County jail and Tavarus posted $1,000 bond before he was released.

Sheree was charged with five counts of disorderly conduct and one count of damage to property. She later received a suspended sentence.

Tavarus was charged with assault, damage to property and disorderly conduct. The assault and damage to property charges were dropped. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.

Maricopa police responded to the Burger King around 4 p.m. that day last September to find the family had already fled the scene. Officers found a “breathless” employee lying on the floor, surrounded by spilled food and damaged items from inside the restaurant.
