Heat to fill the weekend

Tired of the heat? This may be a good weekend to spend inside with the air conditioner kicking — especially when one day is expected to bring record-breaking high temperatures amid an excessive heat warning.

Hot temps highlight this weekend, according to the National Weather Service, which says they may be met with some rainfall.

Today, it will sunny and hot, with a high near 114 degrees. Winds will gust at speeds of 5 to 10 miles per hour. Skies overnight will be mostly clear, with a low of around 86. Winds could reach gusts up to 20 miles per hour.

Saturday, like the day before, will be sunny and hot, with a high of 116. That could be a tick over the hottest temperature ever recorded in Maricopa on July 15 — 115.9 degrees, a record set just last year. Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 5 to 10 miles per hour. Skies overnight will be mostly clear, with gusts of winds at speeds 5 through 15 miles per hour.

Sunday? Yep, you know it. It will be sunny and hot, with a high near 116. Like the days before, winds are to gust at speeds of 5 to 10 miles per hour. Wind speeds will remain overnight. Unlike the two preceding days, Sunday has a 20% chance of thunderstorms overnight, with a low of 86.

Monday may bring Maricopa a wet, yet still hot, start to the week. There is a 20% chance of thunderstorms after 11 a.m., while the forecast says it will still be mostly sunny and hot. The high will be near 115. Winds may gust upward to 20 miles per hour. The chance of rainfall overnight is higher than throughout the day, with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m. The night will be mostly cloudy with a low of 86.

The excessive heat warning issued by the National Weather Service will stay in effect through Monday.

Residents are urged to beat the heat with these essential tips when outdoors.
