A new restaurant dishing up East Asian fare in Maricopa is slated to open “soon.”

What was just a shell of a commercial space filled with dust, lumber and construction equipment in March looks dinner-ready after just a few months.

WZ Asian Bistro and Sushi Bar is in the Cobblestone Fiesta Shopping Center on North John Wayne Parkway and is set to cut its ribbon “soon,” according to the company website. It did not provide an exact date or time for the event.

Paper menus were well-stocked outside the pan-Asian restaurant this morning. Offerings include an array of soups like miso, shrimp wonton and tofu. WZ Asian Bistro will serve classic bites like egg rolls, gyoza, fried calamari, beef and chicken on a stick, jumbo shrimp and tempura.

There is no shortage of sushi rolls on the bistro’s menu — more than 60 different options like the special Maricopa Roll. It’s shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado and crab meat wrapped in pink soybean paper with eel sauce.

The 2,500-square-foot space was decked out with lighting, tables, a front desk and of course a sushi bar this morning.

The restaurant will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, according to its website. Dinner runs a bit later Fridays and Saturdays when the spot will stay open until 9:30 p.m.

Company representatives could not be reached for comment.

WZ Asian Bistro and Sushi bar opened its first location in Pinetop-Lakeside. It’s grown to nine locations across Arizona — including restaurants in Casa Grande and Tempe — and one in New Mexico.
