Two people were injured when a pickup truck reportedly struck them while they attempted to cross a road in Tortosa on Tuesday night.
Just before 8 p.m., two adult pedestrians tried to cross Terragona Boulevard in front of Desert Wind Middle School when they were hit by a vehicle making a turn, a Maricopa Police Department spokesperson told InMaricopa.
A woman suffered “serious injuries” and was taken to a hospital, the spokesperson said. The second pedestrian, an unidentified man, was treated on scene for scrapes and bruises.
East side resident Michelle Elzinga said she came upon the crash moments after it happened while on an evening walk, according to a post on Nextdoor.
“They were full under the truck before we walked up,” she wrote. “I was walking my dog and there were so many cops and fire trucks.”
The driver stayed at the scene. Police said a DUI investigation is underway to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
