Police have identified the driver accused of running down two pedestrians in Tortosa last week as 47-year-old Chris W. Fox, who officers say later admitted he had used cocaine shortly before the collision. Newly released arrest records also state that substances found in his truck also tested positive for narcotics.

The updated details follow the crash reported last Tuesday at Terragona Boulevard and San Ambrose Avenue, where officers found siblings Christina and Robert Lemay injured in the roadway. Christina was bleeding from the head and transported to a hospital by ambulance with “serious injuries,” authorities said, after both were treated at the scene by Maricopa Fire and Medical Department crews.

Fox told officers he believed the intersection was clear after stopping at a stop sign and said he did not see the pedestrians. Robert Lemay told police that Fox never stopped and struck them both, throwing Christina under the truck and him over the hood.

Police searched Fox’s vehicle with his consent and reported finding a small bag containing white powder, a rolled dollar bill, an empty bag with suspected drug residue and crystal-like material on the rear floorboard. Officers wrote that Fox initially denied consuming drugs or alcohol within the previous day but later admitted the powder was cocaine and acknowledged using it one to two hours before the crash. Investigators believed the powder and additional material were methamphetamine.

Fox was arrested on suspicion of possession of a dangerous drug, endangerment, DUI and drug metabolite in the body. If the substances are confirmed to be methamphetamine, he could face a prison sentence just under four years.

The police report, released today, did not state the current condition of the Lemays.
