7-Eleven wants a big gulp of Maricopa business

There’s something red, orange and green coming to Maricopa’s main drag, and it’s not a stoplight. Or a bag of bell peppers. It’s a 7-Eleven gas station and convenience store proposed on John Wayne Parkway, according to documents obtained in a public records request yesterday.

The Texas-based convenience store giant known for its Big Gulps and Big Bites submitted pre-application paperwork to the city’s planning department last week for a 4,600-square-foot store, gas pumps and an “auto service pad” on the southwest corner of John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt Avenue.

Details on when the city may review or approve the application and a construction timeline have not been released.

In March, Super Star Car Wash expressed interest in building a location on a parcel just south of the proposed 7-Eleven, but the business has not moved forward with construction or paperwork.

The closest 7-Eleven store to Maricopa today is 20 miles north at Kyrene and Warner Roads in Tempe.
